I heard the coolest phrase today while in a dealership in New Jersey. The GM was talking about how aggressive his sales people were when he referred to a select group as the guys who “grab the door handles.” Having worked with this store since 2008 and being there many times I knew exactly what he meant.
At this dealership, sales associates who aren’t with a customer or in the BDC are standing out in front of the store. They will literally run to shoppers’ cars that pull up to the dealership and grab the door handles to open the doors. It is a level of intensity and style that will not work in every dealership but it forces each customer to be greeted before they even have their car in park.
