“You’re only as good of a manager as you are a checker.”
This phrase is one I have heard my entire professional career from my father. My dad reminds me that this is a details business and the details will bury you if you do not pay attention to them.
It was very clear this week as I watched one of our dealership owners continually hammer his managers for not paying attention and answering emails when there were questions about the advertising materials.
People get so busy and so focused on other things that a lot of times they forget to check all the details. They simply think that other people are supposed to do that. But they are the managers and ultimately it is their job to manage.
