While shopping at a flea market for obscure items that include “Pez Dispensers” and unique “Salt & Pepper Shakers” (collecting these are two of my odd hobbies that fuel my creative thoughts), I found a paperweight. Apparently from the 80’s, it was from the GM Dealer Manpower Development Program. I keep it on my desk and just caught myself reading the copy printed on it:
“A Strong Manager, exerts a constructive force through well planned and well defined procedures, consistent day to day direction of department people, and consistent awareness and firm control of all parts of the operation.”
Everybody who reads this blog doesn’t run or own a dealership, but reading this phrase and reminded yourself to pay attention to the details and control the basics, can mean a lot to your business in a time like this.
