Case Study: Increasing Primary Market Share & Conquering the Competition

Brief

Kendall Hyundai increased total sales volume by 82% and grew Hyundai market share by 5.1 percentage points in its Southeast Toyota-market region, year-to-date since launching a new digital strategy with Strong Automotive in January 2026.

The Challenge

Kendall Hyundai wanted to grow beyond its immediate Primary Market Area (PMA) and capture more of the demand building around the 2026 Hyundai lineup. To do that, the dealership needed a strategy built for conquest, one that could reach buyers already loyal to competing brands, not just grow within its existing customer base.

The Approach

Working with Strong Automotive, Kendall Hyundai increased its overall digital investment by 45% year-over-year and shifted to a conquest-focused strategy aimed at market saturation and competitor displacement.

Key elements included:

  • Retain: Tracked and measured in-market shopper behavior to identify and target likely buyers with precision.
  • Performance Max: Leveraged Google’s AI-driven ad placements across Search, Display, YouTube, and Maps to maximize reach across the widest possible buyer pool.
  • Meta AIA: Served dynamic, inventory-based ads on Facebook and Instagram to put real-time vehicle listings in front of in-market shoppers.
  • Amazon Video Ads: Extended reach to shoppers browsing Amazon and Amazon-owned platforms, reinforcing brand visibility beyond traditional automotive ad channels.
  • Email Campaigns: Nurtured leads and past customers with targeted offers tied to the 2026 Hyundai lineup.

The Results

The strategy delivered measurable success for the dealership:

82% increase in total sales volume, year-to-date since strategy launch

31% increase in total lead volume, with sales growth far outpacing lead growth — evidence of stronger conversion, not just more traffic

5.1 percentage point gain in Hyundai market share (510 basis points)

45% increase in digital investment year-over-year, reinvested directly into conquest-driven channels
